Getting to and around Cox's Bazar

Getting there & away
Located about 150 km south of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar is connected both by air and road from Dhaka and Chittagong.
GMG Airlines (63900; Hotel Sayeman Rd) supposedly has flights to/from Dhaka (Tk 4670) everyday and Chittagong (Tk 3450) on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, but don’t rely on this schedule. Non-Stop flights are available from Chittagong and Dhaka on GMG Airlines, United Airways. Flights tend to be daily during the high season (Oct - Apr) but generally drop back to 3-4 flights per week during the Summer and Monsoon (May - Sept).
The main bus terminal is a few kilometers east of the central town area, about a 15 minute / Tk 10 rickshaw ride. Most buses leave from around the Laldighi Lake area. Buses to Dhaka (non–air-con Tk 400 to Tk 500, luxury Tk 700 to Tk 1000; eight to 10 hours) generally leave in the evening and arrive early the next morning. Buses to Chittagong (local bus Tk 140, luxury bus Tk 300, four hours) leave regularly until 4.30pm. Buses to Teknaf (Tk 75, three hours) depart until 6pm.
The private bus companies have offices near Hotel Sea Queen on the main road, and also down in the Hotel Motel Zone.
Getting around
Some rickshaw drivers are hotel touts; be clear where you want to go and how much you want to pay. On the other hand, not all their hotel recommendations are bad ones.
* Cycle-rickshaws are plentiful, and the ride between Hotel Motel Zone and the Laldighi Lake area on the main road should cost Tk 12, though foreigners will have to fight hard for that price. They'll ask for at least Tk 20, Tk 15 is a fair enough middle ground.
Approximate value in US currency:
Tk. 20 = 29 cents, Tk. 15 = 22 cents, Tk. 12 = 17 cents
Bangla Tours, located in the Dream Castle Hotel in the hotel-motel zone, is a reliable car-hire firm for trips further afield.
